Dangers of Methamphetamine

  • Mental Health Risks: Frequent or high doses increase the risk of paranoia, anxiety, and psychosis, which may include sensory disturbances like visual, auditory, or tactile hallucinations, especially in sleep-deprived individuals.
  • Physical Health Risks: Methamphetamine can cause vasoconstriction (narrowing of blood vessels), increasing the risk of high blood pressure, headaches, cramps, and strokes.
  • Social and Behavioural Risks: Problematic use is linked to loss of employment, breakdown of relationships.
  • Mixing with Other Substances: Combining methamphetamine with other drugs, including alcohol, can cause dangerous, unintended, or unpredictable effects. Mixing with stimulant drugs can increase anxiety, while mixing with depressants can mask the effects of each drug, increasing the risk of overdose.
  • Overdose Risks: Taking too high a dose, especially without accurate measurement, can lead to severe negative effects.
  • General Safety: Reduced inhibitions may lead to not spotting dangers, such as potential hazards in the environment. Methamphetamine use can also impair judgment and increase the risk of accidents.
