Symptoms of Ketamine to look out for:

Physical Signs

  • Ketamine can cause small, pinpoint pupils and shallow breathing.
  • Users may experience an increased heart rate and blood pressure, as well as nausea and vomiting.
  • Muscle rigidity is another common symptom, and in severe cases, ketamine use can lead to respiratory depression and seizures.
  • Additional physical symptoms include a fast heart rate, urinary pain, impaired vision, stomach cramps, sweating, problems with coordination and movement, temporary hearing loss, bladder pains, insomnia, and even paralysis.

Behavioural Signs

  • Initially, users may experience euphoria, but this is often followed by confusion or depression.
  • Unusual drowsiness or difficulty staying awake is common, along with hallucinations and visual disturbances. In some cases, users may exhibit aggressive behaviour.

Dangers of Ketamine

  • Ketamine use carries significant risks, including the potential for overdose, which can lead to severe drowsiness, unconsciousness, and respiratory depression.
  • Long-term use can cause bladder damage, known as ketamine bladder syndrome, which includes symptoms like cramps, abdominal pain, difficulty urinating, and blood in the urine.
  • Mixing ketamine with other depressants like alcohol increases the risk of respiratory failure and death.
  • Frequent use can lead to tolerance, requiring higher doses to achieve the same effect, and physical dependence, resulting in withdrawal symptoms when not using the drug.
