Dangers of Fentanyl

  • Potency: Fentanyl is incredibly strong, often described as being 50 times more potent than heroin. This means a much smaller dose is needed to feel its effects.
  • Adulteration: Fentanyl can be unevenly distributed in a batch, leading to unexpected and potentially lethal doses.
  • Tolerance and Dependence: Frequent use can lead to tolerance, requiring higher doses to achieve the same effect, increasing the risk of overdose and dependency.
  • Physical Dependence: Can develop quickly, leading to withdrawal symptoms if the drug is not taken regularly.
  • Overdose Risk: Even a small difference in dose can lead to overdose. Mixing fentanyl with other depressants like alcohol or benzodiazepines increases the risk of respiratory depression and death.
